Every summer, a dozen or so students from Burbank are selected to spend two weeks visiting one of our Sister Cities, and students from one of our Sister Cities are chosen to visit Burbank and stay with local families. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn about a different culture first hand and to represent our city!

This year, Burbank students, grades 9-12, will be chosen to travel to Ota, Japan, as delegates representing Burbank!

To learn more about student travel, attend a Sister City Committee meeting held the first Monday of every month at 6:30 PM in the auditorium at the Buena Vista Library in Burbank. We would love to have you join us!

Travel as a chaperone!

This year, Burbank students, grades 9-12, will be chosen to travel to Ota, Japan, as delegates representing Burbank. We are looking for chaperones, ages 26 or older, to accompany our students to Ota, Japan. Chaperones participate in home stays just like students and chaperone airfare is paid for by the Burbank Sister City Committee.

Students and chaperones from our Sister City Incheon, South Korea, will be visiting Burbank in summer of 2025. Burbank families are needed to host our guests while they are here. Please consider taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity and host a student in your home for one or both weeks. To learn more about hosting, attend a Sister City Committee meeting held the first Monday of every month at 6:30 PM in the auditorium at the Buena Vista Library in Burbank. Become a Sister City Chaperone!

The Burbank Sister City Committee is excited to announce an opening for a chaperone to travel with our nine Burbank Student Delegates to Ota, Japan for two weeks this summer!
 In the past we have had a number of teacher chaperones and now, we’d love to make this free travel opportunity available to you!
Since our students will stay with host families, no weeknight or weekend chaperone supervision is required. All activities will be planned and facilitated by our host city ambassadors. Chaperones will be lodged with host chaperones, where meaningful cultural exchanges and lifelong friendships can be made.
In order to meet the eligibility requirements, applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Interested in representing Burbank through cultural exchange
  • Hold a valid passport through Dec 2023
  • Have some experience managing small groups of students
  • Have an adventurous spirit
  • Be available for travel between 7/10-7/24, 2023

SCI Young Authors and Artists Showcase

The Young Artists and Authors Showcase (YAAS) is an annual art contest that encourages youth worldwide to express the mission of Sister Cities International through original artwork, literature, poetry, photography, and music.

Submissions are centered around an annual theme and judged based on originality, composition, and theme interpretation.

Selected Grand Prize Winners in each category (art, literature, poetry, photography and music) win a $1000 prize while second place winners receive $250 and third place winners receive $100. After the winners have been announced, their works are displayed on the Sister Cities International website.

Host a Student from Incheon, South Korea!
